Consumerist Spirituality

In the last post, Mark Sayers talked about a cultural phenomenon called hyper reality which is a combination of hyper consumerism, mass media and rampant individualism.  On his blog, Mark has a number of interesting resources.  This article looks at consumerist spirituality as one of the underlying reasons young adults leave church (It is one of 5 reasons).  However I think the effect is broader than that - I think it impacts most of us in the church.  Let me encourage you to read his post and then spend sometime reflecting by yourself or with someone else on the following questions from the free download resource on why young adults leave church:
